I install Kubuntu and decide I need a few more files from Win 7 Laptop and no go READ ONLY ! Try everything above again and no go. Try to format and TADA ! It wipes and I create a Kubuntu 12.4.1 install stick.

Back to Win 8 change advanced sharing and add my user and select full access for it and the everyone user. I try Universal USB Installer 1.9.2.1 with erase disk checked. I decide to install Kubuntu 12.4.1 so I go to format drive to recreate a install stick with Kubuntu 12.4.1. Looked for regedit lines from on solution my reg had no entry.Ĭhecked my lock switch and moved it from the position it was allways in to the other position and TADA.Īdded files went to Ubuntu 12.10 and added files. When I went to add more files Ubuntu 12.10 to my 8 gig class 10 sd card it came up read only. I created a kubuntu install stick with Universal USB Installer 1.9.2.1 all went well Win 8 This happened to mewhile using a USB SD card reader. Not sure if this helps but maybe it mught jog someones mind for an answer. If you can gain ANY usable space, consider yourself blessed. (if it IS a U3 - you MAY get "lucky" & find a tool online to remove it, finding the right one is the problem, unless the thing gives a clue to it's maker - I doubt that the tool was ever ON it)ĪLSO, given WHERE you say it came from (& if I read correctly contained the potential for creating a virus) then it is also possible that this device isn't what it seems & may NOT work as it normally would / should. Oh, and i forgot to mention that when i removed the software that it installed on my (virtual box) winxp i found that the only thing remaining in the folders that it created for the purpose were a couple of virus creation toolkits. I paid $10 for this stupid bit of junk and am trying to wipe it so i get some use out of it: once i figured out what all the stupid downloading it was doing was for i jerked it out and refuse to use it. There is a simple stinking certificate to "assure" the connection.

Sorry, perhaps I should explain, this USB drive is a stinking little piece of junk that my (Chinese) bank uses as a "secure" way to hook-up with their online banking portal. Post added at 10:04 PM - Previous post was at 09:57 PM. So I dd with zeroes to wipe out the boot sector, but it remains read only AND /dev/sr1 I have run into the same problem, but there does not seem to be a simple fix. The only way to repair the iso image is to entirely re-write it. So there is no way to repair a damaged iso9660 images, and therefore no fsck for this particular file system. Also these file systems are "static" You build then once and can not modify them except for a certain special type of concatenation. CD/DVDs are typically read-only so they cannot be readily repaired. "fsck" is a file system test/repair tool and iso9660 is a file system (for DVDs and CDs, so it makes sense when you type the command fsck /dev/sr1, but there is no fsck for the iso9660. It seems to map to an iso9660 file system image of some partition on your USB device. This device would normally be used for a DVD/CD which is often read-only. dev/sr1 is an cd/dvd DEVICE, not a partition. You must do the partition table accesses on that device not /dev/sr1. The U3 system mounts on dev/sr1 while the rest oi the 8 GB USB drive is usually /dev/sdb or sometimes /dev/sdc. You are using terms in a confusing way, and confusing yourself along the way.
